PLAN THE LOCATION
Choose the operating format before the licence category
Mississauga’s licensing portal separates restaurants and retail food from categories such as personal services and automobile service stations. Start with the activities you will actually provide, rather than assuming that every franchise follows the same municipal application.
For financing preparation, write a short operating brief: what customers buy, where service takes place, the intended hours, equipment needs and any delivery activity. Use that same brief when discussing the premises with the City, landlord and franchisor. Inconsistent descriptions can lead to estimates that cover different versions of the business.
If you are comparing sites, prepare a like-for-like cost sheet. A lower headline rent may be offset by more construction, fewer operating hours or a different equipment requirement. Request written information for each shortlisted unit, and mark costs that are still allowances rather than supplier quotations.
- Show base rent, additional rent, deposits and any landlord contribution separately.
- Compare the staffing and transactions needed to cover each site’s monthly costs.
- Record approval questions against the chosen business category and exact premises.
BUILD THE FINANCING CASE
Build a forecast for this location’s trading week
A useful Mississauga franchise business plan explains when sales occur. Separate weekday and weekend demand where that matters, then connect the forecast to a staffing roster. A location that needs employees throughout a long opening day cannot use only its busiest-hour labour cost in the budget.
For a restaurant, calculate walk-in, takeout and delivery sales independently. Include packaging and platform costs where applicable, and avoid counting the same customer in more than one channel. For a personal-service franchise, use appointments, service duration and available staff to establish a realistic revenue ceiling.
When buying an established location, compare these assumptions with the seller’s actual sales mix. Identify changes in rent, wages, royalties or management costs under the new owner. We use that evidence to prepare the financing case, with the owner’s investment, acquisition costs and operating reserve clearly separated. Lenders can then assess repayment against the proposed business rather than an unexplained sales target.
MATCH THE LOAN TO THE PROJECT
How to approach franchise financing in Mississauga
Start with the amount and timing of your project costs, the investment you can contribute and a cash-flow forecast. We prepare the financing request and in-house business plan, then coordinate with suitable banks, credit unions or BDC. Your location, transaction and lender criteria help determine the options.
Fund My Franchise helps arrange the application; the lender decides approval, security, rates and repayment terms. Ask about fees and conditions before accepting an offer.
